English Dept: LCD Projector

Ms Turken's 8th and 9th grade English Classes need an LCD projector.   An LCD projector will make it possible to project lessons, powerpoint lectures or key notes.   It is a basic tool that helps teachers with their curriculum.    The LCD projector costs $350 and we have collected $85 so we need $265.

Can you cover the whole cost?

English Department: Non-Fiction AP English Books

NEW UPDATE 5/21: Two parents have stepped up and covered the rest of the money needed for Ms Sandburg to increase her library.     

This Wish Now Complete.  Thank you, Parents!   




We are trying to expand Ms Sandburg's classroom library.    Ms Sandburg's library provides reading material for reluctant readers and will pique curiosity and desire.

Many of the students who borrow from Ms Sandburg's current library are not even her students.   She has an extensive selection and is constantly going to ebay and book sales to add to the collection.   She currently is trying to expand her non fiction selection.    To see which titles she hopes to bring into her library go HERE.


She needs $250 and has had one family already donate $25.  We need $225 more to get all the books.

Ms Sandberg teaches High School English and if you have a high schooler it would be great if you could kick in for this wonderful goal.  However, if you are a middle school parent and have a love of reading, would you please help cover Ms Sandberg's goal?    

Love of reading starts at any age and it can be one book that activates the reader.   It could have been Harry Potter for some kids back in elementary school.  Maybe it was Diary of a Wimpy kid?  Sure. But the truth is that there are some kids who respond to real stories about real people and this is where we need to support Ms Sandberg as she expands her Non-Fiction library.

And remember even if your kid doesn't have Ms Sandberg, her library is available to all.

English Department: ELMO Document Camera

When it comes to writing there is one adage that all professional writers know is true:  "Writing is Rewriting."    The power of editing is a skill that students should learn early in school.  And for students at a college prep school like LACES the bar is raised high since writing is key to term papers and therefore college dreams.  

Ms Sandberg will be using this in English 10th, 10H and AP English.  

The ELMO Document Camera can project student and professional writing samples for group or class editing.    It costs $360.   We have already received a $50 donation.   We need $310

Computer Science: Robotics Supplies

Anything you can donate to robotics will be so appreciated by the staff.   Thank you!



Many materials are needed for the High School robotics competitions.     When you add it up it is around $1000.    At the Gala one family donated $50.    We are trying to get the other $950 so that all the supplies can be purchased in time for next year.

COMPUTER SCIENCE: Earphones

The Computer Science department needs 40 sets of earphones.   This will eliminate distraction when students are working on code.org and Khan Academy.   With earphones they will be able to work at their own speed and won't disrupt other students who are working at their pace.

The earphones are $20 dollars each.

Can you fund a couple sets?  
Can you ask your friends to help fund?

Can you put it out there on your Yahoo Group that you want to help invest in our Computer Science Department?   And maybe some of your parent friends will help?

Science Dept: .01 Accuracy Scales 200g

The Science Department needs three .01 accuracy scaled (200g capacity).   Scales are of course basic tool in any scientific study.   Scales that have .01 accuracy lead to better understanding of weights and measurements.  

Each scale is $150.

Can you buy one of the scales?
Can you ask a couple of your friends to chip in for one?
How about three of you chipping in $50 each?
Can you ask your yahoo group if anyone wants to go in on one with you?

Science Dept Needs: Microscope SA3

New Update:  5/21:  Two families stepped up and took care of the 4 microscopes that were left to be covered.   Thank you, families so much for helping LACES science move into the new 21st century!!

The Science Department requested  six  Microscope SA3.  The stronger magnifications will support scientific experiments and study.   These microscopes are critical for 7th grade Science,  High School Biology and AP Biology.  

Each Microscope costs $250.   

Can you fund a microscope?

Or can you and a few of your friends divide it up and cover the cost of a microscope?

How about five people from your grade chipping in $50 each?    Can you put it out there to your yahoo group.
